The View’s Sherri Shepherd Disgusts Crowd With Full-Length Fur Coat

Let’s get one thing clear: fur is never, ever, ever, in a million trillion years okay. It’s not green. It isn’t sustainable. And it’s without-a-doubt one of the cruelest types of fashion out there. Cruella de Vil wore fur for godsakes!
So you can imagine how disappointed we are at The View’s Sherri Shepherd for galavanting around the stage in her full-length fur coat. We also lost tons of respect for Whoopi Goldberg for supporting the fur and praising Sherri’s coat.
A Scent of a Scandal Co-Founder Ari Solomon posted an open letter to Shepherd on GirlieGirlArmy.com. In it he writes:
“It takes 40 minks to make one fur coat like the one Ms. Shepherd wore on the show. These animals are kept in cages so small they literally go insane from running around in circles. Animals that are caught in the wild have their limbs clamped shut in iron traps. They are sometimes left for days bleeding, freezing and starving, often trying to chew off their own limbs, desperately trying to escape.”
And that’s just beginning.
Please join myself and many others in contacting ABC and letting them know what you think about the incident. It’s 2010 and wearing fur is totally unacceptable. Period. End of story.

Horrible. I have contacted ABC. I can not say I’m surprised at Whoopi’s attitude, though; she defended Michael Vick and said that dogfighting was normal in the South.
I’m really surprised by Whoopi’s attitude to this. She once played a major part of Captain Planet (voice of Gaia) and then for her to be ok with this? Huh?
What does the image above have to do with the story above?
Check out this uplifting and inspiring video on why people choose vegan: http://veganvideo.org/
I really cannot stand people who wear fur, it is just appalling. However, maybe we should focus on educating people about fur, because as Sherri is not the brightest crayon in the box, she probably has no idea the pain and suffering she was wearing. Whoopi should know better. I think sending the ladies some of PETA’s fur videos would change their minds about fur
here is another proof: fat and ugly people are wearing fur coats!
That is really sad. What kind of message does she think she is sending to viewers? How disappointing. And no, i am not disappointed because i watch the show, i have never seen it (and never will) but because in this day and age, when information is so readily available and people all over are boycotting fur in many different ways, this woman wears a full length fur coat? I hope the juju from the pain of the innocent animals that died for that stupid coat hangs on to her for a while.
I agree, and although someone else stated that she is not very bright, nonetheless, I hope that the karma from that coat affects her as well.
Contacted ABC and will be posting this page to Facebook. I have been a Whoopi fan for many years and asked ABC to advise her that I am no longer. This type of behaviour is so disgusting and I am happy I did not see the episode, although I have not watched the show since Lisa Ling left. I also did not know that Goldberg supported Vick, who cares if dog-fighting is common in the South, does that make it right? WTF???
I shared this with a few friends and one who is African American (and also green) explained it’s a “cultural thing” (kind of how Whoopie explained Vick’s dog fighting business) but the friend said that she was raised thinking fur was wonderful and a sign of wealth and the ultimate achievment was to own a fur coat (sad, I know)

Well, maybe a million years ago–heck 150 years ago–fur was okay; they didn’t have options like we do now.
Sherri Shepherd is a dingbat–remember she had never thought about whether or not the earth was round, for which Whoopi Goldberg rightly castigated her. But Whoopi has gone down paths I find abhorrent. From admiring a fur coat, to defending dogfighting, to defending a child rapist, she’s become a shadow of her former self.
I saw that segment on the internet and was appalled. I think that Whoopi was just trying to be supportive of a fellow cast member, but it was misplaced. Wearing real fur is wrong on so many levels. Remember that, during the Holocaust, nazi’s made lampshades of the skin of jews? Would it be okay to have one in your house just because it was already made? All fur coats are already assembled when you buy them. That is no reason to justify it. The coats should be destroyed or buried, and outlawed.
done ! did send a (polite) complaint to ABC.
