White House State Dinner For Indian Prime Minister Will Be All Vegetarian

November 24th 2009

Manmohan-Singh324Tonight, President Obama will be holding the first official dinner for visiting Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and we’ve got some good news: the menu is totally vegetarian.

Chef Marcus Samuelsson along with White House Executive Chef Cristeta Comerford will be preparing the dinner, which will feature foods like Red Lentil Soup and Roasted Potato Dumplings.

Singh is considered to be an ”abstemious vegetarian,” and will certainly appreciate the efforts made to serve a plant-based meal.

[Update: We made a boo boo! Looks like this menu isn't as vegetarian as we thought. Somehow we missed that prawns were being served as an entree. Our bad! ]

  1. SOOOO..when did Prawns become vegetarian?

  2. Prawns are most definitely not vegetarian.

  3. YIKES!!! Of course prawns aren’t vegetarian. I missed that, kids! Sorry!

  4. Yeah, prawns definitely aren’t vegetarian. Guess that titled should read “Will Be Mostly Vegetarian”, heh.

  5. Of course there had to be prawns or some other animal food. I have found that most Americans will almost die if they don’t have meat in their meals – even one meal. And for the few who can abstain almost always there has to be some meat substitute like mock chicken etc. Truely a country of meat addicts!

    • Hey, I like my analogues, and there’s not a thing wrong with them.

I’m disappionted they served the prawns, but okay, it was MOSTLY vegetarian. Maybe one year it will be ALL vegetarian, and Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, and all the other conservahaters can just go plotz.

  6. What??? They’re serving DEAD prawns to the Indian Prime Minister? Do they think that Prawns have no-life or do we need more biologists in White House? Even a child can see that a Prawn is a living animal which is definitely not a meal. But its really appreciative that White House is considering Vegetarian options for their guest. But please remove the Prawn off the list since it is a living animal.
