It’s safe to say that 2009 was a horrible year for green media — and just about everyone else too.

Cash flow from advertisers and subscribers dried up fast, leaving some well-established brands to succumb to the economic tidal wave — while other young publications barely made it past a couple months of existence.

We’ve gathered 10 brands that passed away in 2009 and will, with one exception, be missed. Deeming them all as “green” is a bit of a stretch, since some on this list covered much more than the environment — but it’s their contributions to the movement that we’re honoring.

Click here to have a look — and if there’s any that we’ve missed, please chime in below.

Thank you for the great article! I know first hand about the impact the economy had on Green Media when my old company EcoFlip.org (which had really begun to pick up speed as the “green craigslist” ) was hit hard as it depended heavily on sponsored advertising.

As I feel bad about losing these great publications, I am confident that the impact of their inspiration will launch us forward to bigger and more efficient things!

Thank you ecorazzi for pressing forward and continuing to deliver the energizing content that you do!

thanks for sharing; I will especially miss PLENTY – one of my all time favorites; they were one of the first supporters of my eco-events: Go Green Expo and I wish all of the former PLENTY team much success in their endeavors in 2010.

Perhaps you didn’t include elephant journal, nationally distributed in most Whole Foods, Pharmacas, bookstores…because we (barely) survived transition online…in any case, great (and sad) list!
