If you happen to see a larger than life Michelle Obama cruise past you on the streets of Washington, D.C. — joined by Oprah Winfrey, Carrie Underwood and Tyra Banks — you’ve just seen PETA’s new anti-fur van. If you happen to be wearing fur, we imagine they throw you in the back and force you to watch videos of animals being skinned. That, or Mariah Carey’s Glitter. In slow motion.
Along with the van, PETA has launched a poster featuring the ladies that are appearing in metro stations around the capital city. “Being fur-free is fabulous because an important part of what you wear is showing that you care,” says PETA Senior Vice President Dan Mathews. “By rejecting fur, these style icons demonstrate to the world that fur is old-fashioned and cruel.”
Of course, the White House is a little less than happy that the ads feature the First Lady — specifically because they did not seek her permission to appear in the campaign. Of course, as Ingrid Newkirk pointed out, her organization wouldn’t have sought Mrs. Obama’s consent for the anti-fur ad because it knows that she can’t make such an endorsement.
$10 says Ms. Obama is cool with it anyways.
