Summit On The Summit Success! Celebs Reach Top Of Mt. Kilimanjaro!

Roughly two hours ago, a team of celebrities and supporters successfully tweeted (how’s that for 21st century exploring?) that they had reached the top of Mt. Kilimanjaro.

The trek, which started last Thursday, covers more than 50 miles and includes stars like Emile Hirsch, Jessica Biel, Lupe Fiasco, Isabel Lucas, and Elizabeth Gore. The goal is to raise awareness of the worldwide water crisis.

You can follow along on both Twitter and through their slick website as the group makes their way back down the mountain. We wish them a safe journey and commend them on their efforts to draw attention to the water crisis.

    Now – back to important issues:

    Japan kills over 1,000 whales and 24,000 dolphins every year. They are driving the overfishing of bluefin tuna. It’s just a resource to them and when its gone they’ll move on to the next one.

    Sea Shepherd is doing important, urgent work.

    Do some reading and look at what is going on with the IWC. While most countries want to turn it into a conservation organization to deal with real threats like sonar, ship strikes, decreasing food supply, plastic and chemical pollution, etc. Japan is going everything it can to overturn the ban on commercial whaling. They have bought countries votes by paying their IWC dues and providing money so they will join the IWC and vote with Japan.
