There’s green and then there’s GREEN! This year, the SAG Awards proved that even highly-produced awards shows can fall under the latter category.
For the second year in a row, the SAG Awards partnered with the Environmental Media Association to guarantee the most environmentally-friendly event possible. Here’s just a small list of the fancy green components this year’s award ceremony featured:
- “Hybrid limos” (read: chauffer-driven Priuses and town cars)
- Organic and local food and flowers
- Donated or composted leftovers
- Reused, recycled or repurposed staging material, including scaffolding and lighting
- Green gift bags full of eco-friendly products
- Limited printing on recycled paper, using double-sided whenever possible
- A comprehensive recycling program for both the production offices and vendors
- A “No-Idling Zone” for all trucks during load-in and load-out
- And much, much more!
SAG Awards Producer Kathy Connell said that, “Reducing the environmental impact of the SAG Awards was an important goal for us this year.” Well, Kath, we think ya’ll passed with flying colors!
