Remote-Controlled Ady Gil Best Kept Away From Other Boats

remote controlled ady gil

Spotted at a German Toy Fair, this remote-controlled model of the Earthrace — the same boat that became the doomed Sea Shepherd Ady Gil this past summer — is a reminder of happier times for the record-breaking timaran. According to the specs, it looks like it can go between 20-30mph.

Oh yea, and it costs more than $850. So be careful, ok? I’m just saying.

  1. Ahh yes, the Ady Gil. I remember that thing. What a spectacular waste of time and money that was.

Just goes to show that Sea Shepherd is as reckless with the funds it receives from old perverts as it is with the lives of civilian mariners.

Just imagine what Greenpeace could have done with that kind of money!

    • Sea Shepherd was not responsible for the sinking of the Ady Gil, the whalers were. the whalers intentionally rammed and sank the Ady Gil, they ignored its mayday call, and once it was reported as sunk the whalers found it and cut pieces of the hull of of it. Sea Shepherd hasnt lost a life at sea ever! And what aout you whalers, you have lost 3, 2 to a fire, 1 to falling overboard, each the whalers fault, and the whalers alone. Greenpeace is a protest group, Sea Shepherd actually DOES something instead of hanging signs.

      • Pete Bethune arrested by the Japanese for secretly boarding it and trying to Citizens arrest their captain. (feb 16) no mention on ecorazzi yet, i just like to stir it up!

    • Kimitake – you are a PR puppet for the ICR.

    • Good thing there are plenty of rich people who like to donate money to the cause. The Cause being the awful slaughter of whales in the sanctuary. The whalers think they are rambo.

    • Ah yes, just imagine all the leaflets, meetings, and generally useless activity Greenpeace could have done with all that money eh? Greenpeace have been working on stopping whaling for longer than SSCS and have achieved absolutely nothing so far. They rarely get media attention anymore, probably using the excuse that they are ‘working behind the scenes to reach a politically acceptable solution’.

But time is running out and at least Pete B, Ady Gil and the rest of SSCS are managing to keep the issue in the forefront of the public eye on a global basis.

In fact, picking up on your point about it being a waste of time and money, I suspect analysis would show that the money spent on Ady Gil is far outweighed by the value of the coverage so far.

  2. Boarding their vessel (BTW)

  3. Hmmmmmm, that would make a nice ornament at the bottom of my aquarium.
