Paul McCartney has vowed to support efforts to stop the UK government from a lifting a 2004 ban on fox hunting. David Cameron has promised his Conservative MPs a free vote on the repeal of Labour’s anti-hunt laws if elected.
McCartney speaks out in a new report for the International Fund for Animal Welfare action campaign.
“When the cruel and unnecessary ‘sport’ of hunting with dogs was banned, I, along with the majority of the British public, backed this historic victory for wildlife,” he said. “The scenes described in this report of how animals were hunted down and savaged with dogs for fun are simply barbaric and shocking and should remain a part of Britain’s past, not its future.”
McCartney added: “Don’t let politicians bring back cruelty. Help IFAW keep cruelty out of the countryside and back the ban on hunting with dogs.”
According to reports, 75% of the British public do not want fox hunting brought back — something that Cameron may find difficult to stand on as an election issue.
