Ady Gil Yacht Concept Is A Sea Shepherd Wet Dream

Designed by the same firm that helped craft the first Ady Gil (now resting peacefully on the bottom of the Southern Ocean), this “Moonset” Wavepier Trimaran is the epitome of excess and awesome rolled into one. If Bill Gates were to suddenly become interested in whale conservation, this might be the boat he delivers to the Sea Shepherd. And at more than 485ft, it would best the largest boat in the Japanese whaling fleet (Nisshin Maru at 425ft.) and provide enough room for more than 28 comfortably. Scrap the owners suits spanning three decks, and you could probably more than triple that number.

For such a large ship, speed would still be a feature. According to the specs, the Moonset is capable of speeds between 40-50 knots — right up there with the original Ady Gil.

Of course, it’s plainly evident how something this massive (with included pool/jacuzzi for relaxing after a successful butter bomb attack) is impractical as much as it is unaffordable. For the price of this yacht, the Sea Shepherd could probably procure 10 high-tech, effective vessels. But it’s fun to dream.

I’m secretly hoping that Bob Barker is swimming in Google stock and looking to blow it all on this boat. Check out some more pics below.

    Well of course he did.

    There is another election coming up so he has to tell the people what they want to hear. Just like the last 4 or 5 times he said this.

    If the Australian voters believe this again then they shouldn’t be surprised when nothing happens again.

    If they have wised up and don’t believe it this time then whoever they replace Rudd with will have to decide what they are going to do.

    So for Rudd it is a win-win. If the believe him then come November he can do nothing again, if they don’t believe him then come November it is not his problem.

    wow this thing is HUGE any Idea on the cost?

    maybe Sea Shepherd could get one, that’s a double deck design, with out all of the luxury goods (that will make it lighter) with a ice class double hull design, a helipad, overboard boats, and all of the radar goods….

      Teresa – sorry to say but the “average Joe” will never step foot on this boat, or any other like it, unless they are in tight with either the owner or crew. I am in this business and the security is beyond great.

    Beautfull boat I agree, but aren’t we against in your face opulence and luxury. Think of the environmental costs of construction. The fuel required to shift it’s bulk at 50 knots. The exhaust, the noise pollution on whales and dolphins. If a fur coat is seen as a blatant display of needless wealth and vanity, then a luxury yacht like this is disgusting and way over the top. What a complete and utter waste of valuable resources. Even stripping it out would not make much difference

      Another one that has no idea as to the economic impact that the design, construction and operation of a mega-yacht has on the economy. To you, this is a waste but think of all those employed in this business and the trickle-down effect. You may snub your nose at the wealthy but it’s not their fault that you are not in the same financial position. To the beggar on the street, you are rich and the may snub their nose at you for what you have. Wealth is all relative and you need to understand that the world runs on money. If you have a job, up the line from you are many that are wealthy and if they didn’t spend their money then you would NOT have a job!!! I ask you this – how many millions of dollars do you pump in to the economy and how many people are employed because of your efforts?

    personally I don’t like this concept. The Ady Gil was special because it was small and could submarine waves. the next Ady Gil should be a metal slightly bigger version of the original

    This is stupid.

    Why would you waste countless dollars on fancy equipment only to put it in harms way? Emphasis should be on cheap, durable, and expendable. Frankly I think most regular folks are tired of the showmanship & flash and just want to see people help the wales. No-one who actually cares about the issues cares about fancy equipment or rotten butter, they only want to see the waling stop. Spend a 2 million on some crooked-ass lobbying and you may get even further…

      It’s a tongue-in-cheek post, Andy. Nobody here really believe the SS would ever spend such an obscene amount of cash on this boat. Like I said in my post it’s completely impractical and a perfect example of excess.

    This is just another manufactured press release for the Sea Sheep …and another example of ecorazzi’s fascination with the elements of the commercial animal protest industry that have done so much to enfeeble and undermine environmentalism.

      This concept was not created by Sea Shepherd. It was made by the guys who built the Earthrace/Ady Gil. This concept was made by them when Earthrace was still circumnavigating the globe, so it predates the Ady Gil by more than a while. No way that Sea Shepherd would be willing to spend that much on such a gigantic boat. They say the design, and thought it was cool. If you dont like Ecorazzi, than get off Ecorazzi. You arent forced to be here. You came here willingly. And just so you know ecorazzi is an environmental based site, so conservation and animal protection is obviously fitting.

    it’s cool, but way over sized. they dont need somthing bigger then the nisshin, because there will be almost no use for it in other campagins. maybe 4 of these about 1/5 the size, add water cannons, and make the top wiade and flat for chucking the rotten butter. maybe a catapult too.

    i think a mini aircraft carrier might work better. or , if were talking about wild dreams that’ll never happen, a nimitz class. id like to see the whalers try to ram one of them.

    Do not get too exited about this one. The cost to build it is 1 billion Dollars. That will make it one of the most, if not the most, expensive yachts in the world.
    I honestly think that this ship will never be built by anyone.
