When it comes to climate change, famed naturalist David Attenborough ranks as the go-to guy. So says a new poll that asked people living in the UK to choose the most trusted voice in the debate on climate change.

Of the more than 1,043 people polled by the Euro RSCG London, one of the UK’s top advertising agencies, Attenborough came out on top with 14%, followed by Al Gore (9%), Prince Charles (8%) and Bob Geldof and Barack Obama each getting 5%.

Russ Lidstone, CEO of Euro RSCG London said “Sir David is clearly a national treasure whose passion for the natural world is clear to everyone. As the debate on climate change becomes more confusing and mired in controversy, people are looking to him to provide some clarity. This is particularly the case as cynicism around the topic continues to increase.”

Attenborough, now in his ninth decade, is currently writing and filming a new series called The Frozen Planet. Due out in 2011, it examines the impact of a warming climate on the polar regions, and is produced by the same team behind The Blue Planet and Planet Earth.

Something has to give and partisan politics is at the top of the list. I don’t think Al Gore deserves his carbon taxes, but I don’t think we should pour anti-freeze in the drinking water either. I have written about the same subject myself at greater length and am of the opinion things should be done for the environment that we can all agree upon.
