prius sad

As expected, the love affair between Hollywood and the Toyota Prius is suffering under a barrage of claims regarding the car’s safety.

Once the darling of eco-conscious celebrities headed to the Oscars’ red carpet, the UK Times is reporting that not one was spotted this year. In fact, leading up to the awards, only one famous face — Leonardo DiCaprio — took a Prius; and that was to Global Green’s Pre-Oscar bash, and only hearsay.

“I think Leo (DiCaprio) arrived around the back in one,” said Matt Petersen, president of Global Green to the Times, “but no one else who walked on our green carpet. It’s very sad, but it is falling out of fashion for many reasons, including Toyota’s own awful crisis management.”

Even EcoLimo, the green taxi company that has shuttled many celebs to the Oscars has seen the Prius fall from the limelight. “I saw Cameron Diaz arrive in a Camry hybrid and Woody Harrelson in his alternative-fuel car, but I can’t remember one celebrity in a Prius,” said owner Yvette Fray. “Not one.”

Now’s your chance, Chevy Volt.

The Prius was introduced in 2000… the bug has only appeared in the latest models. The part is made in the USA. It’s in my paranoid nature to be very suspicious… You don’t throw the baby out with the bath water. If the Volt isn’t riddled with problems, I’ll be surprised. It hasn’t been easy bringing electric cars to market, with the entire oil status quo sitting on your face!
