Twentieth Century Fox today confirmed what James Cameron said a few weeks back: Avatar for Blu-ray and DVD will be released on Earth Day, April 22nd.

The studio is obviously attempting to capitalize on the green vibes of the film (something they were initially against including) with the release on the eco-centric holiday, which also happens to be the 40th anniversary of Earth Day.

Our biggest question: Will the packaging be eco-friendly? I mean, if you’re all about pushing a movie’s green themes as a selling point, while your director claims it’s the most successful environmental film of all time, wouldn’t you want your packaging to match? Or is the fictional world of Pandora about as far as the studio is willing to go with environmental stewardship?

We’ll know next month.
