Right after the Haitian earthquake earlier this year that completely uprooted the country, Danny Glover made a remark in an interview that sent Conservative radio shows into a tizzy.
“What happened in Haiti could happen to anywhere in the Caribbean because all these island nations are in peril because of global warming,” Glover said at the time.
Headlines like “Actor Says Haiti Earthquake Caused by Global Warming” immediately went up around the web; with mocking tones of Glover’s science fueling the flames.
The Washington Examiner’s Yeas & Nays had a moment to catch up with Glover — and he explained what he meant by the comment saying, “I mentioned global warming in a conversation; let me say this emphatically, clearly, all you have to do is look at the tape,” the actor said. “I’m saying that everybody knows that there are going to be island countries that won’t be in existence in the next 40 years because of global warming — the plan is how do you evacuate?” he continued.
Glover added that his comments shouldn’t have received the amount of press they got. “I didn’t say they were being condemned because of a pact they made with the devil,” the actor said, referencing televangelist Pat Robertson‘s controversial comments on the disaster.
