On Wednesday, April 21, Barack Obama and Michelle Obama will join socially-conscious recording artists like Carrie Underwood and Alicia Keys for Idol Gives Back, the Emmy Award-winning, fundraising episode of American Idol.

The Obamas will appear in a taped segment of the two-hour charity performance. During the broadcast, viewers will be able to donate to the Idol Gives Back Foundation and its recipient organizations. Beneficiaries for this year’s event include Children’s Health Fund, Feeding America, Malaria No More, Save the Children’s U.S. Programs and the United Nations Foundation.

The Obamas’ appearance on the show is not a first for a First Couple, nor is it a virginal visit for this Commander-in-Chief. In 2007, then-President George W. Bush and Laura Bush spoke to Idol viewers. The following year, presidential hopeful Barack Obama appeared with his opponents to raise funds for the program’s charities.
