The Genesis Awards, which took place on March 20 in Beverly Hills, will be broadcast on Animal Planet on April 24 and 25. The star studded ceremony honors news and entertainment media for addressing a spectrum of animal protection issues. This year’s winners list included The Cove, Whale Wars, Up, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Bones, Family Guy, and The Oprah Magazine.

Humane Society’s Genesis Awards TV Special will feature the who’s-who in animal friendly Hollywood as well as allowing The Cove’s Oscar-winning director Louie Psihoyos to deliver the speech he was unable to give at the Academy Awards.

“The 24th Genesis Awards is a one-of-a-kind awards show. It has all the red carpet pizzazz of other Hollywood award shows, but it also has purpose – it informs, enlightens and inspires its audience to want to help protect animals,” said Beverly Kaskey, senior director of the Hollywood office of The Humane Society of the United States and executive producer of The Genesis Awards event and TV Special. “And thanks to Animal Planet, the unique Genesis Awards experience will reach a nationwide audience.”

Also featured during the show is Melanie Griffith’s presentation of The Genesis Lifetime Achievement Award to her mother, Tippi Hedren. “The thing I’ve learned most from my mom is that she just doesn’t give up. You know, she’s like a tiger when they latch on to something and they don’t let go… that’s like mom.”

Celebrity presenters and attendees include Antonio Banderas, Kristen Bell, Keely and Pierce Brosnan, Teri Hatcher, Jon Lovitz, Emily Deschanel, Ginnifer Goodwin, Booboo Stewart, Maria Menounos, Eric Stonestreet, Jessalyn Gilsig, Michael Vartan, and Amanda Righetti, Owain Yeoman, and Tim Kang.
