Veggie-powered fight Jake Shields is kicking ass and taking names…literally!

The lifelong vegetarian had what many consider a career-defining moment on Saturday when he defeated former two-division Pride Fighting Championships titleholder Dan Henderson in the Strikeforce “Nashville” headliner at the Bridgestone Arena.

Shields was considered the underdog going into the match, but that didn’t stop him from dominating the fight.

“He hit me really hard,” Shields said. “It was the hardest I’ve ever been hit in my life. Henderson has one mean right hand, like everyone said. I was a little disoriented, but I didn’t want to lose and get embarrassed like that. I was thinking, ‘I can’t lose this fight like this.’”

For those who don’t follow the sport, Jake is on a massive streak right now, which includes six first-round finishes.

“You get used to winning,” said Shields,“It’s a habit. In my mind, I have no choice but to win.”

So the next time someone tells you that a planet-pleasing vegetarian diet is for wimps, you just tell them to give old Jakey a call.
