airbender

Paramount Pictures has released some new posters for M. Night Shyamala’s Captain Planet flick The Last Airbender. The plot for those just tuning in:

“The film is set in a fantasy world where the four elements of earth, air, water, and fire can be controlled through martial arts called bending, and the ruthless flame-manipulating Fire Nation is waging war to control the other nations of the world. At the same time a young boy named Aang, the last surviving wind manipulator or Airbender and is also the Avatar, the physical incarnation of the world itself who possesses the ability to manipulate all four elements, is on a quest to stop the Firebenders and save the world, with his friends Katara, a water-manipulating Waterbender from the South Pole, and her brother Sokka. But the skilled and vicious Prince Zuko, the banished Prince of the Fire Nation, is on the trail of the Avatar, seeking to regain his lost honor by capturing him.”

Got that? The film hits July 2nd. Check out two more images after the fold below!

Wow, okay. I love Avatar, and the posters are cool. But really? How is this like Captain Planet at all? It has a vague environmental theme in it… maybe~ It has much for of a peace, a “we’re all human” and an anti violence/capital punishment message. Also, while the movie is directed by M Night Shyamala… You can’t entirely credit it to him as it’s based off a cartoon series by DiMartino and Konietzko- not that many people would really recognize those names I guess.

  • Daws

Lol, it never occurred to me to compare Avatar to Captain Planet. I guess there are similarities. From the trailers, the special effects and fight sequences look stellar…I’m not sure about the acting though. I LOVED the animated series so there is a lot of pressure for the movie to capture the charm and appeal of the characters. Pressure on Shyamalan too. He’s been putting out terrible movies for awhile.

Why for the love of gosh, did they choose Dev Patel as Prince Zuko? He’s not nearly as dang hawt.

But I’ve to agree with Daws, the fight sequences, and yeah the parts where Aang unleashes his powers look wicked orgasmic. I love to see it soon!
