Cardinals Defensive Tackle Gabe Watson Drops 30 Pounds With Vegetarian Diet

Arizona Cardinals defensive tackle Gabe Watson is feeling the pressure to keep his spot on the roster. After ending the 2009 season playing from the bench and overweight, Watson decided it was time for a change.

Adopting a strict vegetarian diet for a month, Watson was able to shed thirty pounds by removing meat and incorporating beans and shakes. While he does eat meat on occasion now, he has added wheat grass to his diet along with healthy breakfast options like a concoction of oatmeal, peanut butter, honey, water, and bananas—all blended together.

“I’m feeling good now,” Watson told the Arizona Republic. “I’m getting way healthier, my knee is not giving me problems and I’m stronger than I’ve been, probably, since I’ve been here.”

The 26-year old hopes to drop 15 additional pounds by the time he reports to training camp this summer.
