The third annual Mezzetta Make That Sandwich Recipe Contest— which asks contestants to submit an original sandwich recipe in the category of cold sandwich, hot sandwich, or vegetarian—has a star studded twist. The Mezzetta contest features seven celebrity chefs playing for charity, two of whom have created meatless recipes.

Jody Adams, Chef/Owner of Rialto Restaurant and competitor on Bravo’s Top Chef Masters, submitted the sandwich, “Sesame Eggplant in Pita with Peppers, Walnuts and Feta.” She is competing for the charity Share Our Strength.

“This is a fabulous item for a weekend lunch. You can make everything ahead, then assemble and heat the sandwiches just before serving,” said Adams.

Chef/Owner of Daisy May’s BBQ and author of recent cookbook “BBQ 25,” Adam Perry Lang is hoping to get top honors with his “Super Pressed and Toasted Panini with Fontina and Mezzetta Relish” for the charity Turnaround for Children.

“I wanted to create a sandwich that used a maximum number of Mezzetta ingredients without compromising the carrying element of the sandwich,” said Lang. “You can also sprinkle this relish over roasted potatoes with whole garlic cloves, added to a plain pasta salad or potato salad, a mixed green salad, over polenta and a few other items I could think up if you wanted to go in that direction to show versatility.”

Jamie Oliver, Chris Cosentino, Stephanie Izard, Daisy Martinez are also celebrity entrants.

“This year we asked some very accomplished chefs to throw their sandwich recipes into the ring and are so excited to see Mezzetta products used in such creative and delicious ways,” says Jeff Mezzetta, President. “It’s going to be tough to pick a winner from such great entries and we’re sure their ideas are going to inspire our consumers who are vying for the $25,000 Grand Prize.”

Visitors are encouraged to submit their own recipes for a chance to win $25,000 and share the spotlight with the celebrity chef winner. Entries are judged on appearance, taste, creativity, and use of Mezzetta products. Last year’s winner Ninette Holbrook, impressed the judges with her vegetarian entry, “Open-Faced Wine Braised Fig and Caramelized Onion Sandwich.”
