al gore, tipper gore

PETA has become the latest to comment on Al Gore’s separation from his wife Tipper — and not surprisingly, they’re urging the former VP to go vegan as a way to lose weight and rekindle his love life with the ladies.

In a letter to Gore, PETA President Ingrid Newkirk writes,

“You are already aware of the environmental damage caused by animal agriculture, and you recently stated that you are reducing your meat consumption. This is a small but important step. Now that you’re single again and presumably considering dating, you may also be looking for a way to slim down. May we recommend kicking the meat and milk habit entirely and going vegan, which is not only one of the best ways to fight climate change but is also one of the best ways to shed unwanted pounds?”

Newkirk goes on to praise the various benefits and related studies showing how going vegan can improve health. She ends it with this nice little zinger:

“Of course, this is not news to you. Live Earth, the terrific organization that you cofounded, has stated in its handbook that “refusing meat” is the “single most effective thing you can do to reduce your carbon footprint.”

Is there any example of PeTA’s crass branding and attention seeking exercises that Eco-Razzi WON’T slavishly print and echo?

Factory Farming can take a terrible toll on the environment. But PeTA should not be pushing its agenda, no matter how good it is, on someone currently going through personal problems. I don’t think any PeTA member would like it if THEY were getting divorced, and a hunter told them that killing animals is a bona fide way to meet new people.

I LOVE IT!!!! Way to go PETA! Excellent points made to Gore, the one person who has known all along what factory farming does to the environment.

I am neither a Gore lover nor hater, but I find this article in poor taste for a supposed major news network. This would be more appropriate for any magazine. Maybe they could put it under the “entertainment” section here, but on the front page?
