I might be a little too young to recall Charo’s heyday in the entertainment world, but anyone can appreciate the hard work she’s doing today for animals.
The famous singer recently teamed up with PETA to speak out against Spain’s brutal bullfighting tradition.
In the video, Charo explains how, as a child, she often watched bullfighting with her father and was even turned off by it then. Recognizing that bulls are “gentle” and “beautiful” animals who don’t deserve to be treated in such hideous ways, Charo decided to speak out against the sport. And she isn’t the only one!
According to PETA, “Worldwide opposition to bullfighting is growing, and in 2006, a Gallup poll found that 72 percent of Spaniards had “no interest” in bullfighting.” Wow!
What can you do to get involved? PETA is asking everyone to contact Spanish Prime Minister José Luís Rodríguez Zapatero, and urge him to ban bullfighting in Spain.
Check out Charo’s video below to learn more about why this silly tradition is a total bummer!
