Placenta Planting Ceremony Triggered Gibson's Jealous Tirade

Remember a few years ago when Matthew McConaughey decided to plant his newborn’s placenta under a tree? The ritual is common in some cultures, particularly in Australia, where the tree is meant to symbolize the life of the child on Earth.

It’s really a beautiful thing — I did it for my own kid. But never did I think I would be talking about it in this context.

TMZ is reporting that Mel Gibson’s placenta planting for his newborn daughter triggered that now infamous phone meltdown.

“We’re told Mel did this placenta ceremony for all of his children. The source also says during the ceremony the gardener made an innocent comment and Oksana smiled at him. We’re told that’s what set Mel off.”

Gibson later accused Oksana of an affair with the gardener — leading to the phone calls, leaked tapes, and spectacular destruction of his own career.

But hey, I hear the tree and placenta are doing great.
