Financial uncertainty of residents in the Gulf has forced many pet owners to surrender their dogs to local shelters creating crowded, over-capacity facilities. Thanks to the help of Pamela Anderson, many of those pups are getting a reprieve. The 43-year old has teamed up with PETA to assist the transfer of dogs from Louisiana to Virginia.

“There are far more dogs than homes everywhere, but the crisis in Louisiana is prompting people to open their hearts and doors to animals in trouble,” Anderson told UsMagazine.com.

The generous blonde has paid the local adoption fee for each of the animals in addition to all spay or neuter costs, and flea treatments. Upon arrival in Virginia, PETA will hold an adopt-a-thon at the Virginia Beach SPCA after a short quarantine period.

Go, Pam!

Why Vegetarianism Makes No Sense From A Moral Perspective

I don’t consider my years as a vegetarian as a stepping-stone or prerequisite to veganism

I hope I win the ‘Pig Farmers of Tomorrow’ contest I entered (I’m vegan)

I think I’ll likely have the most interest in pigs of anyone applying, anyway.

Hopefully Jon & Tracey Stewart use their new farm for vegan education

They’ve promised classes on caring for animals and sustainable agriculture, so vegan 101 would be a great place to start.
