Leaving his One Life To Live soap days long behind, Nathan Fillion has earned a loyal following thanks to his roles in many a cult classic, including Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Firefly, Serenity and Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog. Now portraying a best-selling mystery writer on ABC’s Castle, the steady paychecks must be agreeing with him because he’s been on the hunt for a personal electric vehicle that will help him to green his daily commute to the set.

Apparently, the native born Canadian achieved a eureka moment on August 12 when he laid his eyes on the Arcimoto Pulse electric car – described as a three-wheel, all-electric vehicle that can achieve a top speed of 65 miles per hour – because he tweeted “I found it! I found my spaceship! It’s real and I’m getting it! http://arcimoto.com/” to his 600,000+ followers.

The manufacturers have been giddy ever since that simple message was sent out into the Twitterverse because now, the small start-up has effortlessly cemented its presence and will launch a limited run of their motorcycle-like crafts at the beginning of 2011 at a rather modest cost of $17,500. What’s all the hullaballoo about? Peruse the green credentials of the Arcimoto Pulse for yourself:

  • Two seated vehicle with a stable platform (passenger seat is behind driver’s seat and can fold down to accommodate cargo).
  • 8 Rechargeable 12 volt lead-acid batteries can travel 40 miles per full charge and take just 6 hours to get juiced up. (Once more advanced, longer range lithium cells become more affordable, they will provide the main source of power.)
  • Fuel economy MGP estimated to be 190+ equivalent.
  • Final version “will have an electric DC motor powering the front wheels with the equivalent of 65 horsepower and 85 pound-feet of torque.”

Now that Fillion has sent out the good green word for Archimoto’s quirky-looking eco-friendly form of transportation, let’s all do him a solid in return. In the fine tradition of the Facebook campaign that successfully got our gal Betty White to not only host SNL in May but ultimately score her 5th Emmy Award, there are now two new Fillion-for-SNL pitches making the rounds here and here. Come on everybody – let’s give him some green love 😉
