The ING New York City Marathon just became a bigger deal.

New York Road Runners has partnered with Crowdrise, the online volunteer site, to help New City Marathoners raise $1 million per mile for charity! All runners will have the opportunity to raise money without any minimums or requirements. As participants pound out the 26.2 mile course, they can fundraise for a cause of their choice or join an established marathon team.   The total amount will be tracked and tallied by Crowdrise. Organizers hope to capitalize on the marathon’s history of being a huge fundraiser for charities in the past and believe there is great potential for 2010.  The process is easy and begins with a visit to www.crowdrise.com Who said there’s no pay off to running a marathon??

[Editor’s note: So far, NYRR has raised over $8 million! Hit the site to add your contribution!]
