Well, this is kind of bizarre and adorable in a way that makes you wonder who exactly came up with the idea. EA Games just announced the release of a brand new videogame called “Wildlife: Forest Survival,” for Xbox Live and PlayStation Network, set to launch in Spring 2011.
Jon Dean, Executive Producer at EA Salt Lake Studio, said “Wildlife: Forest Survival gives players the unique perspective of seeing the world through the eyes of an animal in the wild,” while “Experiencing the rush of pitting animals against each other, learning about the laws of nature, and feeling the thrill of the hunt, chase and kill is sure to make for a game that showcases survival of the fittest at its best.”
So, rather than strapping on ammunition and going into battle, this multi-player game allows you to play as one of four animals: an alligator, rabbit, fox, or hawk. Each one comes with its own strengths and weaknesses per the animal kingdom code (i.e. the gator dominates the water with its agility and jaws, but is challenged with slower speed on land), and once the critter du jour is chosen, the player is into one of eight unique where they find their prey and avoid being eaten.
What does sound appealing is that instead of industrial scenes or backgrounds that feature destruction (like so many popular games), this one offers lush forests, jagged rocks, and bodies of water to explore. Visually this could be really fun and exciting and, more importantly, it would be pretty cool to be a fox for a day.
