You know what we need more of in public schools? BARS! Salad bars, that is.

According to Grist Magazine, first lady Michelle Obama is expected to announce a new partnership today that will bring 5,000 salad bars to school cafeterias across the country.

From Grist.com: “First Lady Michelle Obama is expected to announce on Monday a major new initiative that would place up to 5,000 salad bars in public schools nationwide, despite uncertainties over how local health inspectors might treat those salad bars and USDA nutrition-tracking rules that could prove a major impediment.”

The initiative is part of Obama’s “Let’s Move” campaign — a national public awareness campaign to help end childhood obesity by helping parents make better food choices, serving healthier food in school vending machines and lunch lines, making healthy food more available and affordable, and encouraging children to exercise more.

While it sounds like a good plan to us, some school officials say that salad bars could pose issues regarding supervision, hygiene, and payment. You know what we think poses an issue? The wildly unhealthy food that many cafeterias serve our youth! For real!

Stay tuned to Ecorazzi for an “official” announcement from Obama.
