Most people want to celebrate their 30th birthday by having a party with friends and family. Or at least, you know, hanging out in temperatures above freezing. Jake Gyllenhaal has a different kind of celebration in mind. He’s planning an arctic scuba dive swimming amongst the walruses.

Gyllenhaal said, “The only reason I’m doing it is I wanted to do something that absolutely terrified me – killer whales and walruses and freezing cold water? That seems absolutely terrifying.”

Some people take issue with humans disturbing wildlife for a quick thrill. What do you think? Cool birthday bash? Or leave the poor walruses alone?

The real question is~ will the walruses want to swim with Jake? Since that is what it boils down to. I say the more authentic and considerate contact between humans and animals in the wild the better! Can’t wait to see the photos!
