Who needs to shock people with a porn video when you can put it all in writing? That was Tommy Lee‘s thought when he recently penned a scathing letter to SeaWorld on the subject of whale masturbation.
Yes, I said “whale masturbation.” Because according to Lee that’s exactly what has been going on with Tilikum, the killer whale involved in the deaths of three people this year, including his trainer. After the fact, Lee alleges that the whale has been confined to a tank barely larger than its own body and has limited contact with trainers. That is, except for the days when it’s time to donate to the sperm bank.
In the letter, Lee states, “We understand that you refuse to release this frustrated whale because he is your chief sperm bank, and we know from SeaWorld’s own director of safety (as well as videos on the web) that the way you get his sperm is by having someone get into the pool and masturbate him with a cow’s vagina filled with hot water.” He then added, “Even during my wildest days with Mötley Crüe, I never could’ve imagined something so sick and twisted.”
I mean, how could you not be disturbed after reading Lee’s graphic description? It’s horrifying to think that these cruel conditions actually exist.
However, SeaWorld is now rejecting these claims because, according to them, his allegations are false.
“If Mr. Lee’s information on Tilikum and SeaWorld’s artificial insemination program for killer whales comes from PETA we’re not surprised that it’s wrong,” the VP of Communications for SeaWorld, Fred Jacobs, said in an interview. “PETA is as careless with facts as they are extreme in their views.”
In addition, Jacobs claims that of the 27 orca calves at the park 25 of them were conceived naturally, and the other two were via artificial insemination. It was stated by Jacobs that the method they employ for this is among the most standard of techniques and, more importantly, sans the cow vagina.
“The process of collecting semen for this process doesn’t differ in any meaningful way from the techniques employed in managing livestock or other species from zoological display,” Jacobs argued. “Lee also contends that semen is collected from Tilikum using a ‘cow’s vagina filled with hot water.’ This is beyond ludicrous. Whatever his views on SeaWorld, Mr. Lee would be wise to spend more time checking his facts.”
SeaWorld has come under fire for their treatment of animals in the past, perhaps it’s time to close up shop (please!)?
