Biking is not only a great way to get exercise, it’s also one of the greenest modes of travel around. And for kids, of course, riding a bike is just plain fun!

Musician and eco-warrior Jack Johnson recently gave bikes to 50 kids in Christchurch, New Zealand as part of the annual Bikes for Kids tour presented by Variety — The Children’s Charity.

“We all remember receiving our first bike, but for many Kiwi families this is out of reach,” says Lorraine Taylor, Variety CEO. “Through our Bikes for Kids programme, Variety gives bikes to children who are seen by their peers as role models, who have made a difference in their school or community, who have overcome adverse circumstances or whose families are simply not in a position to purchase a bike.”

For only $200, Variety can provide a child with a bike and helmet and provide life enriching assistance to children with physical restrictions. What’s more, the Johnson Ohana Charitable Foundation is making giving more effective by matching all contributions (up to $2,500) made by December 31.
