Ellen DeGeneres and her holistic pet care line Halo recently announced that in 2010 they donated over one million meals to shelter dogs and cats across the country.

“At Halo we want to promote healthy living for pets and eating good food is a big part of that,” says DeGeneres. “So, we agreed to donate one million meals of Halo to shelter pets. I mean, imagine, an animal in a shelter, in a cage, lonely – a good meal is kinda all they have to look forward to, until you adopt them!”

DeGeneres became part-owner of the natural animal food line in 2008 as a way to give dogs and cats the chance to “be the healthiest they can be.” By the end of the year, DeGeneres and Halo will have fed animals in 100 shelters throughout the United States. Pretty amazing stuff!

I’m sorry, but no change is going to happen as long as animal activists think it is ok to exploit some animals (cows, chickens) in order to feed dogs and cats.

I appreciate very much the willing the help, Ellen, but this is NOT the way to go. I understand the fucked up situation, but it is not the cows and chickens fault.

yes, killing the cows, pigs, chickens and fish to feed the dogs and cats is the same old pattern of human domination over those who cannot protect themselves. Dogs and cats would never naturally take down a cow or a pig and probably never catch a chicken either. Can you see a cat fishing? Take a look at the pet supply stores…there is even deer in pet food!

Cats and dogs living the home life are easy vegetarians….easy. The diseases they are getting are from the diseased “food” that people are feeding their cats and dogs from those bags of death kibble people swear by.

Very disappointed to see Ellen associated with killing animals to feed animals.

i just checked the ingredient list on their website.

“natural wholesome meat” ; very sad and misguided. :-(

Please produce vegan dogfoods and catfoods, if you care about pet animals, other animals, other people, and the environment.

Indeed, BenCat, very disapointing to see an inteligent educated person (Ellen) being involved in this.

i also fail to see why this is “pretty amazing stuff”, we all are inteligent and we all read books and websites and we all know the facts, right ?
I mean, “natural wholesome meat”, come on, dont pull my leg with that Greenwashing term, its same old same meat from factory animals.

i also wonder what is the exact quantity of “one million meals”, and what is the exact costs for this pet food company to “donate” this amount.

Last but not least, we all know that these handouts are PR stunts to get maximum free publicity for a minimum price. Its not like, coming from the heart, eh.
