Some sad news to start off 2011 with reports that Oscar-nominated Pete Postlethwaithe has passed away at the age of 64, “peacefully, after a long illness.” Our deepest condolences to the actor’s family and friends.

Best known for this roles in “The Usual Suspects”, “Inception”, “The Last of the Mohicans”, and a tremendous portfolio of other films, Postlethwaithe was also a committed environmentalist — most recently starring in the futuristic documentary “The Age of Stupid”, which looked back at the present age we are in and our inaction to do anything substantial to slow or stop climate change. He also had plans to turn his home green with a wind turbine, eco-friendly insulation and photovoltaic tiles on the roof; though it’s unclear whether this ever happened.

Back in March of ’09, Pete also vowed to give back his OBE (Order of the British Empire) honor should a new coal plant in in Kingsnorth, southern England be constructed. That plan was eventually scrapped in October of this year.

Godspeed, Mr. Kobayashi…
