Did anyone catch Monday night’s episode of “The Colbert Report,” where host Stephen Colbert claimed that global warming is no longer a thing because “the American people voted that it’s not”?
Okay, that was obviously said satirically, and we know that it’s very much real, as did his guest Fen Montaigne, the author of Fraser’s Penguins. His book explores the world of Antarctica in the midst of climate change, and how those differences in temperature are affecting the penguins of the region.
Cute little tuxedo penguins to be exact! How awful is that?
In the interview, Colbert joked about why global warming is over. “Excuse me sir, global warming is no longer happening,” the host said. “It was very popular in 2007, I believed in it then because Al Gore’s movie made money, but now he’s getting divorced.”
But Montaigne smartly fired back, “The strangest thing is happening, even despite this new Congress, many of whose members don’t believe in global warming, it’s still going on.”
He then explained that on a recent trip to Antarctica, he wasn’t nearly as cold as he should have been, and that the high temperature there was 52 degrees Fahrenheit. “That’s warm!” he exclaimed.
