The long-awaited Captain Planet: Season One DVD is headed to store shelves on April 19th — just before Earth Day kicks off. The set is being produced by Shout! Factory and will include 26 episodes and some yet-unknown bonus features. According to the release, the 4-DVD box set naturally boasts a specially designed eco-friendly packaging made of 100% recycled paper.

The Season One cast features some well-known celebrities including Meg Ryan, Whoopi Goldberg, Martin Sheen, Jeff Goldblum, LeVar Burton, and Sting. I’m really hoping that the bonus features might reveal some early voice demos of Tom Cruise as Captain Planet.

Wait — you knew that Tom Cruise was the original choice to voice the blue superhero, right?

While I’m bummed there’s no Blu-Ray option (I like my animated eco-cartoons in the highest-definition possible), I’m psyched for this one to hit — and hopefully the other two seasons as well.

“Hero cow” becomes media darling to non-vegans everywhere

This pariah has earned her freedom through resistance and a seat atop the pedestal few non-human animals have ever sat. It’s The Hunger Games and she’s our Cow-niss.

THIS WEEK IN THE VEGANVERSE III

No one wants to date vegans, meat is getting the mayo treatment, and Finland get’s the first taste of new vegan fast food AGAIN.

Please stop attempting to express love through animal exploitation

While I’m a huge sucker for the sweet stuff, I can’t escape the seasonal dread of seeing lovers carelessly link up gestures of romance with animal exploitation.
