Even though Ricky Gervais got a lot of flack for his opening monologue at this year’s Golden Globes, and rumors circled that he was being asked to make public apologies, it seems that the organizers may have invited him back to host for a 3rd time!
That’s the word on the street according to Gervais himself, who said, “The organizers asked me to consider a third year. I don’t think I should. I don’t know what I could do better. I certainly couldn’t get more press for them, that’s for sure.”
Cheeky man. The invitation, according to the 49-year-old, is a result of a spike in ratings. Though, as Deadline Hollywood reports, the ceremony only drew 17 million which is just a slight increase from last year.
In spite of Gervais’ claim, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association is denying these allegations and says they have not invited him back to host.
Hmm… well, whatever the case, the HFPA may have taken pause with his introduction of Robert Downey Jr., in which he said, “Many of you in this room probably know him best from such facilities as the Betty Ford clinic and Los Angeles County Jail,” or perhaps it was his original idea to open the show dressed as Adolf Hitler and begin with the line, “That’s the last time I borrow a suit from Mel Gibson.”
Either way, we rather enjoy the British comedian who has been an outspoken animal rights activist, worked to end wasteful fishing practices, promoted healthy eating, and vowed to leave his fortune to animal charities.
And besides, that opening monologue was filled with LOLz, am I right??
