The Olsen Twins have become a set of young fashionistas, having started multiple clothing lines. Now, they’re putting that influence to good use in starting a charitable footwear range.

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen have teamed up with the charity firm Tom’s Shoes to help put shoes on the feet of children who need them. For every pair of the new Tom’s + The Row shoes purchased, a pair of shoes will be provided to those in need around the world. Mary-Kate said of the new collaboration, “The giving is immediate. Having the opportunity to be a part of something so meaningful has made the collaboration with Toms special to everyone at The Row.”

The plan is modeled after the Tom’s Shoes “One for One” idea, which has been running under founder Blake Mycoskie since 2006. Mycoskie founded the organization after visiting Argentina and seeing that many of the children there were barefoot, as their families couldn’t afford shoes. Since then, the “One for One” plan has been providing sturdy shoes to children all over the world.

This is a great move in the right direction for the Olsens, who have not been in our best graces of late: just a few months back, the twins wore a ridiculous amount of fur to the CDFA/Vogue Fashion Fund Awards. The two have mostly ignored  pushes from animal rights organizations to stop promoting fur use.

Hopefully, though, this charitable act is a step in the right direction for Mary-Kate and Ashley. Already, the girls have been involved in a number of humanitarian efforts fighting poverty and homelessness, and have participated in events to support arts education. Ditch the fur, girls, and you will officially be fully awesome!
