The royal wedding date for Prince William and Kate Middleton is fast approaching— April 29, 2011— but that doesn’t mean the couple can’t squeeze in a few charitable events beforehand!
On February 24th, the Prince and his future bride will be the guests of honor at a naming ceremony of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution‘s (RNLI) newest lifeboat, the Hereford Endeavour.
A senior helmsman of the lifeboats, Christopher Pritchard, said, “Having Prince William and Miss Middleton name our new lifeboat is especially significant to us. As Prince William is a pilot with the RAF Search and Rescue Force just down the road at RAF Valley, we also welcome him as a colleague who works with us to save lives at sea.”
The event will take place at the lifeboat station at Trearddur Bay, which first opened in 1967 and has saved 202 lives. The RNLI is an independent charity organization that operates with 40k volunteers— that’s a whole lot of life guards! The group relies on public donations in the UK and Ireland, so the fact that Wills and Kate will be there to support it and raise awareness for the cause is a big deal!
