Earlier today, we reported that a lock of Justin Bieber’s hair, presented to Ellen DeGeneres in a plexiglass box, was up for auction on eBay. With just 15 minutes left in the auction, the highest bidder stood at just over $17,000.

What a difference 15 minutes makes: by the time the auction ended, the price of the lock of Bieber’s hair had skyrocketed.

Are you ready for this?

Bieber’s hair ultimately sold for $40,668. That’s after 98 bids were placed, and it’s an increase of more than $20,000 in just 15 minutes. For now, let’s set aside the question of which 14-year-old girl out there has $40,000 and celebrate in the fact that the money raised in this charity auction will benefit The Gentle Barn, the charity chosen by Ellen.
