The thing about running a non-profit or a charity organization is that it’s incredibly rewarding but, more often than not, you have no money! That’s why Toyota is stepping up and stepping in to help non-profits by donating 100 cars to 100 deserving organizations. Vroom vroom indeed!

Starting this week registered 501c(3) non-profit organizations can apply online for a chance to win a Toyota Prius, Tacoma, Tundra, Highlander Hybrid, Sienna, or Sienna Mobility with a six-year 100,000 mile powertrain warranty. The deadline for submissions is March 21, 2011, and from the submissions the pool will be whittled down by a panel of judges who are experts in the fields of philanthropy and social responsibility to 500 finalists. These lucky 500 can then submit vids, create online profiles, and much more to try and encourage voting — an important factor as public voting will decide who gets the cars!

“Over the past two decades, Toyota has contributed more than half a billion dollars to philanthropic programs in the United States, and now 100 Cars for Good will put the public in the driver’s seat for one of our philanthropic efforts,” said Jim Lentz, president of Toyota Motor Sales. “We wanted to engage the community and the supporters of thousands of worthy organizations in this process— allowing their voices to be heard as we award 100 vehicles based on their votes.”

The initiative is challenging the public to get involved in corporate philanthropy, a pretty novel idea if you ask us! And while we wish all of the giveaway cars were hybrids (in a perfect world!), we’re still super excited to see Toyota taking this step to initiate community involvement.

If you have a non-profit or know of one that could use a shiny new ride, you can apply through Toyota’s Facebook page at for a chance to win!

Good luck to all the contestants, we’re excited to see who the lucky 100 will be!
