Getting paid to be the voice of the Aflac duck must be sweet, easy work – but Gilbert Gottfried’s penchant for tasteless humor in the aftermath of disaster means he can kiss that gig goodbye.

The comedian was fired yesterday after a series of tweets making light of the disaster in Japan. As of Monday evening, they were no longer on his feed – but the Internet never forgets, and all were copied and angrily blasted about hours before.

“Japan called me,” said one tweet. “They said ‘maybe those jokes are a hit in the U.S., but over here, they’re all sinking.’” And that was about the tamest one.

Said an Aflac rep: “Gilbert’s recent comments about the crisis in Japan were lacking in humor and certainly do not represent the thoughts and feelings of anyone at Aflac.”
