Recognizing her efforts in the fight for animal rights, this year PETCO has awarded Ellen DeGeneres with the HOPE Award, given to those who continuously promote the bond between humans and animals.

On the award, DeGeneres said, “I wish we lived in a world where caring for animals wasn’t so rare that it deserved an award. All I do is treat animals with the respect and dignity they deserve. I hope someday soon, everyone does the same. PETCO and the PETCO Foundation have made great efforts to protect animals and I commend them for going above and beyond the call of duty.”

DeGeneres has been a co-owner of Halo Pet Food since 2008, joining the team just as they expanded their distribution. Halo Pet Food, which is a natural line of food for animals (consider it the ‘organic’ version), partnered with various nonprofit companies like The Humane Society of the US and ASPCA, among others, to donate 1 million pet meals to over 100 shelters across the United States.

The gala event will be held April 30th in San Diego, CA.

i don’t get it, what’s so good about non vegan pet foods…? it’s raising and killing one animal to feed your pet animal. it would be more wise to develop affordable vegan petfoods that can compete pricewise with yukky non vegan petfoods, or discourage people from keeping carnivoureos pets.

How does she not know that Petco had undercover footage of horrible conditions for animals and one worker put dying hamsters in a bag and slammed them on the floor? And her being a spokesperson for Covergirl which is owned by Proctor and Gamble that still uses animals for testing…especially cosmetics on rabbits in the infamous Draize method!
Ellen…before you smile for the camera and thank Petco or accept a contract from Covergirl…do some research if not for yourself than for the animals that suffer.
