Recognizing her efforts in the fight for animal rights, this year PETCO has awarded Ellen DeGeneres with the HOPE Award, given to those who continuously promote the bond between humans and animals.

On the award, DeGeneres said, “I wish we lived in a world where caring for animals wasn’t so rare that it deserved an award. All I do is treat animals with the respect and dignity they deserve. I hope someday soon, everyone does the same. PETCO and the PETCO Foundation have made great efforts to protect animals and I commend them for going above and beyond the call of duty.”

DeGeneres has been a co-owner of Halo Pet Food since 2008, joining the team just as they expanded their distribution. Halo Pet Food, which is a natural line of food for animals (consider it the ‘organic’ version), partnered with various nonprofit companies like The Humane Society of the US and ASPCA, among others, to donate 1 million pet meals to over 100 shelters across the United States.

The gala event will be held April 30th in San Diego, CA.

Prisons profit from exploiting life and labour

Most young workers don’t want anything to do with manual labour jobs in meat and dairy, and as a result, a large majority of agricultural workers are marginalized people

If you’re mourning Sudan the rhino, go vegan

The world needs more vegans because more than dollars or pledges or sad-emoji riddled posts, our individual efforts can stop the demand for horns, for zoos, for animal flesh, and for the exploitation of any living being.

Criticize veganism, but don’t discredit it

Oppressive and harmful behaviour has no place in a movement rooted in anti-oppression.
