We’ve all been there. You’re flipping through channels, you make the mistake of landing on the Food Network, and suddenly you’re watching Paula Deen make her triple-butter bacon-flavored marshmallow chocolate balls.
Yes, the life of a vegan can be trying at times. But no more! Vegetarian Star reports that Erin McKenna, owner of the NYC-based bakery Babycakes, is releasing a new cookbook. BabyCakes Covers the Classics reinvents all of our favorite pastries in a gluten-free, vegan-friendly form.
If the preview video that McKenna posted on her blog yesterday is any indication, the vegan pastries won’t sacrifice any flavor for healthiness. The video is a full-fledged smorgasbord of culinary porn, featuring glazed donuts, chocolate-chip waffles, powdered madeleines, all appropriately underscored with the song “I Want to Tell You How Much I Love You” — a sentiment that you’ll likely feel toward the food after watching.
BabyCakes Covers the Classics is scheduled to hit stores next week on April 8th, but if you’re getting anxious, you can pre-order it from their website (you can also order a signed copy for an extra $10). BabyCakes’ equally delicious first cookbook is also available for order from their website, though it’s currently backordered.
In addition to its location in the Lower East Side at 248 Broome Street, BabyCakes also has a bakery in LA, at 130 East 6th Street (between S. Main Street and S. Los Angeles Street). Stop by and pick up your gluten-free vegan confections today!
