If kids want to learn about gardening, how about learning from the most famous garden in the USA? Clarion Books has just released the new children’s book, First Garden: The White House Garden And How it Grew.
The book, written and illustrated by Robbin Gourley, includes the story of the First Lady’s garden, White House recipes, as well as historical information like Eleanor Roosevelt’s Victory Garden during World War II.
The beautiful water color illustrations and text also helps to teach kids about eating healthy foods like fruits and vegetables and the benefits of local produce. Eco foodie Alice Waters has written the forward, so you know this book has got to be good.
Gourley wrote, “As First Lady and as a mom, Mrs. Obama was concerned about the health of the American people. She believed we should think about what we eat and where our food comes from. And she wanted her family — all families — to become healthier by eating more vegetables and fruits together at the table.”
Glad to see that more kids will be exposed to the First Lady’s “Let’s Move” campaign and healthy living through this book.
