PETA Asia-Pacific and PETA India have released some new ads for the vegan and vegetarian scene – but for most people Stateside, the stars featured are probably unrecognizable.

First up is Filipina singer and actress Geneva Cruz, who recently stripped down and embraced some tomatoes to promote the vegan lifestyle. “For me, being vegan is not about the diet,” she says. “It’s really about my love for all creatures.

“In addition to saving countless animals every year, the health benefits of a vegan diet are countless, whereas the consumption of animal-derived foods has been linked to not only heart disease and cancer but also multiple sclerosis and osteoporosis.”

Over in India, Shahid Kapoor has just been voted PETA’s sexiest Bollywood star for 2011; as well as starring in a new ad for going veggie. “I am very happy being a vegetarian and I believe that it is the best way to be,” says Kapoor. “The day I started believing in the fact that I would want not to kill animals for my taste buds that is the day everything changed for me.”

Guys, extortion isn’t an effective form of vegan advocacy

Assuming we can extort people into respecting the lives of others makes no sense.
