A bit lost in the shutdown-threatening budget talks last week was a move by the GOP to include measures that would limit the EPA’s regulatory abilities. Thankfully, that attempt didn’t pass, and we can all breathe a sigh of relief (using slightly cleaner air).
But the battle isn’t over, and the GOP remains on the hunt to limit or eliminate the EPA’s control over greenhouse gas emissions.
Hollywood legend Robert Redford has taken notice, and fully understands the gravity of the situation: “I’m going to be devastated if something happens and I think the country will be devastated too,” Redford said of the GOP’s plans.
Redford intends to meet with Interior Secretary Ken Salazar while he’s in Washington, schedule permitting. The movie star is currently promoting his latest film “The Conspirator,” which screened last night in D.C.
Redford is no stranger to protecting the environment, as the actor was recently named Conservationist of the Year by the National Wildlife Federation. Redford and seven other award recipients, including Michelle Obama, will be officially honored at the 75th annual National Conservation Achievement Awards this Wednesday, April 13th.
With the Republican-majority House having passed a bill last week that would strip the EPA of its authority on limiting greenhouse gas emissions, it looks like the work of Democrats in Congress isn’t over just yet. Neither is Redford’s, for that matter, and the actor remains dedicated to keeping the environment-saving regulations in place.
“All I can do is try,” he pledged.
