What do you do if you’re in a room full of millionaires during an auction for a good cause and no one is stepping up to help out? Well, if you’re Leonardo DiCaprio, you go up on stage, grab the mic and pledge fifty thousand euros.

That’s what he did in Cannes at the Cinema for Peace Fundraiser for friend and fellow activist Sean Penn‘s Haiti Foundation.

DiCaprio used his pledge as a way to get others to give. He called on Harvey Weinstein and billionaire Vladamir Doronin to match his pledge. And they did.

Finally, as if he hadn’t done enough, DiCaprio auctioned off the chance to walk the red carpet with him and Uma Thurman with all proceeds going to the charity.

All in all, Penn’s Haiti foundation was left 750,000 euros richer after that night.
