Love yourself? Want to adopt a dog that looks just like yourself? A program in New Zealand has found the solution: Doggelganger, the “human to canine pairing software.”
The database contains hundreds of photos of homeless pets. The user uploads their own photo and voila: the program uses facial recognition software to pair you with a dog whose face is closest to yours.
At the moment, the software itself is a bit finicky (I suggest using the webcam option and hold VERY still — make sure the box is green when you take the photo. If the voice doesn’t immediately tell you the photo is unacceptable, give it a minute, it’s loading results.) Also, the database only contains photos of adoptable dogs from New Zealand — BUT, it does raise awareness for dogs that need a home.
I’m sure if it’s a success, America will be up and creating its own version in no time!
