Josh Duhamel may be in Russia to promote the new Transformers film, but his heart is with his hometown, Minot, North Dakota, which is now facing record breaking flooding.

The actor explains, “The town sits on two hills and in between those two hills is a big valley and everything inside that valley is gonna be gone and so I just want people to be aware that this is going on and if there’s anything they can do to help to donate money to the MinotRedCross.org.”

Right now the floods are forcing 11,000 people to evacuate the area and abandon their homes and businesses. Duhamel said about his family’s personal loss that, “There are major evacuations… My sister’s gonna lose her house… My junior high, my favorite pizza place, the university I went to are all gonna be underwater.”

The flood levels have already broken the 1969 record and are expected to rise an additional nine feet. Locals are packing up what they can before leaving the area and officials are trying to save buildings like the school by building an eight foot dirt wall around it.

This is the second time this month people in Minot have had to evacuate their homes. Due to the particularly heavy rains and late snow melt in Canada, residents had been told to stay on high alert. Like Duhamel, our thoughts are with the residents of Minot.
