Off the coast of California, Captain Larry Hartmann had a rare and exciting experience at sea. The captain and four passengers saw a pod of finback whales swim right up to them and circle their boat!

According to Grind TV, ”there were between 6-10 fin whales, each measuring about 60 feet, and at times they’d accelerate as they neared the boat, then dive beneath its hull.”

Luckily this incredible event was caught on film! You can clearly see a very large finback whale swim up close and turn onto its back. The whale was reportedly 60 feet long, next to the boat’s length of only 34 feet!

Enjoy the video, you may never get to see this in person!
