Ricky Martin – actor, singer, father, philanthropist! Martin has announced plans to open a new center for at-risk children in Loiza, Puerto Rico.

The Child Development and Prevention Center will open in 2012, and could expand beyond Loiza to other areas of Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, Latin America and Mexico, according to Martin. He hopes that this will “make a difference for the children and young people of Loiza… to give them support and the tools they need to guarantee them a better future.”

With a budget of $4 million, the center will provide children with classrooms, recreation, and library books. Children will participate in music, sports, arts and more.

This is not the first time Ricky has given back to the community. In 2000, he established the Ricky Martin Foundation which provides aid to children and their families in the event of natural disasters and also works to prevent child trafficking. He has also provided several scholarships to young students in Puerto Rico.
